As Renters Spend More Time Working From Home, They Are Less Likely to Pay a Premium

CoStar Predicts: Bigger Apartments

Already, developers are switching gears in apartment sizes, giving one-bedroom units a little more girth as they rework preconstruction designs. And in tandem, rent trends are shifting. That’s expected to continue, according to a set of 2021 predictions from CoStar experts.


The work-from-home phenomenon during the pandemic has turned into the norm and is wiping out renters’ willingness to keep paying higher premiums per square foot in urban markets. Interestingly, that’s not a shift that’s evident in two-bedroom units, maybe because there’s already enough room to set up an office.
